Verified Purchase. The book was easy to follow. It helped me to prepare for a new job because of changes I made in my life. Not informative at all! Small print even with glasses , otherwise good layout of the material. Think it will be very helpful.

Great book it helped me a lot for just the basics. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I got this as I thought I would upgrade to the version of office at some time.

This is the one weakness of the book in that it does not flag up changes from previous versions. I have Office and although there were some substantial changes from Office there seem to be far fewer changes with this update. The main changes seem to be more colours and some extra formatting, there may be others but nothing that looked significant.

If you want to know about macros etc you will however need a more advanced book but will deal with most peoples needs including mail merge in word and using Excel as a database.

As well as the actual book inside the back cover is a scratch off silver panel which when scratched with a coin reveals a code which allows you access to tutorials, which take you through everything step by step. A very useful book which did make me realise there is little point in upgrading if you have Office However, the use of colour doesn’t imply form over content – this is a genuinely clear and helpful book.

Faithe Wempen has upheld the usual high standard of the Dummies series with clear, concise explanations of how to perform specific tasks in Office The level of detail is well suited to beginners as well as more experienced users who need a bit of memory jogger – this latter situation typifies my situation in Excel. The only really obvious missing element is the installation options etc. The book also contains a code to access on line tutorials which in my view adds considerable extra value as access is included in the price of the book.

Overall, the layout and sequence of the book is is logical. A further strength is the coverage of the interrelationship between the various components of the Office suite. As a result a potentially dry subject becomes much more palatable for which the book deserves five stars. One person found this helpful.

It covers Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and unless you’re going to be a serious user in any one of these programs there are separate Dummies guides available , this book should cover all the information you’ll need. I have been using Office for, I guess, over a decade now and that’s done me well, however more and more people I am in contact with are using more up to date versions. So for file compatibility and ease of working with different documents, it means a software update is necessary.

This book is smaller than older Dummies guides I have, they have shaved about an inch and a half off the width. I don’t know whether this is better, as even though the book now has full colour pictures throughout, some of the full width images for example of the whole ribbon taskbar are reduced too much in size. It’s difficult to read what part you’re looking at. Also, as the paper the book is printed on is quite thin, you can see text bleed from the other side of the page.

This also doesn’t help when trying to look at some images. If you’re new to Office , then this book should have you well and truly covered. But if, like most people, you’re updating Office from a previous version, there isn’t any list of changes from previous versions so things may take a little longer to work out. Finally there are 22 pages for the index, so you can find an answer to pretty much any question you have and there’s a nice touch of a scratch off silver panel on the inside back cover that gives you access to online content.

Report abuse. This book has been very handy for me, recently i have upgraded my home version of office for work to and although a lot of the functionality is the same the layout is slightly different and this book has been very helpful in identifying the basic function i use day to day for my work. The book is printed in full colour and this is very useful as it helps identifying the buttons and menus on screen easier, for excel it shows the formulas how they will appear on your screen again this is very handy.

You should not be buying this book thinking that this will be a complete guide to all functionality within office. It is very focused on the basic business uses of the software suite and how to update each process. If you are looking for a more in depth guide to advanced processes then you will need to look at the book based specifically for the program in office you are using.

This book also comes with a code to use their online training suite, this is a nice touch and the information on the website is very useful and if you have time can help you learn the new office version easier than just relying on the book. This book is no less impressive and even a humble GP, like myself is expected, these days, to be conversant with most Office products, though sadly the most useful one to me was not mentioned in this guide.

Anyone picking up this book for the first time will be more than rewarded and also more than satisfied. To be clear, there is a wealth of wonderful information which Ms Wempen has set down with alacrity, but she is let down by the page formatting.

Other than this, for those of you who have not been dazzled, like me, this work will be more than sufficient and very worthy. Many thanks. Get everything you need. Office Simplified. Elaine Marmel.
