Really, removing the key or re-enabling the addin is a workaround to the root problem. The issue is that we can never get the root problem since it occurs in the field and by the time it is reported to us the end user either does not have the steps or other key information is missing. My theory is that the previous document or workbook being used could not close correctly perhaps a problem with our app communicating with the addin.
Since Office detected a problem it identifies our addin as the problem or at least the most likely cause of the problem and disables the addin.
